April 17, 2014 (MEXICO CITY) --  Mexican police said Wednesday they have captured a man identified as the second highest-ranking figure in the once-powerful Beltran Leyva drug cartel. 


The head of Mexico's federal police, Monte Alejandro Rubido, said suspect Arnoldo Villa Sanchez was arrested Tuesday, in an upscale Mexico City neighborhood along with another man, two guns and several packages of synthetic drugs. Police said Villa Sanchez had coordinated a shipment of about 265 kilograms (584 pounds) of cocaine found earlier during raids in Mexico City. 

Rubido said Villa Sanchez, 40, operated out of Mexico City, and answered only to cartel leader Hector Beltran Leyva. 

While city officials have long denied that drug cartels operate in Mexico City, they have acknowledged the city is used as a transit point for drug shipments and retail sales. 

Rubido said Villa Sanchez's operations included five nearby states. 

A U.S. Treasury Department chart from 2013 detailing the Beltran Leyva financial network listed Villa Sanchez - also known as Erick Rene Calderon Sanchez - as Hector Beltran Leyva's "head of security." 

The report noted that he was the majority shareholder in a cartel-dominated private security firm. There have long been complaints that private security firms that provide guard and bodyguard services in Mexico, are often poorly regulated and infiltrated by criminal elements. 

The Treasury Department designated Villa Sanchez under the 'kingpin' act, and noted "Villa Sanchez has carried out numerous acts of violence on behalf of his cartel bosses." 

The cartel's importance diminished after the arrest of one of the Beltran Leyva brothers and the death of another in a shootout with Mexican marines in 2009.

Their conversation is just any student waiting for the test results for the child with high anxiety what if the make him a garbage collector or worse etc.. etc… then a sound and visual come to TV with results and the voice says Henrys test score are some highest we have ever seen. The kid smiles from ear to ear as the parents break down and cry as the voice explains that he is threat to the system because he so intelligent………………. The Nature of Self?

Indo-Aryan intrusions over the steppe into ancient Babylonia around the third millennia B.C., marks a significant shift from animism, the adoration of nature, to religious patterns spirited by competing views of nature and causality.

Philosophical debate is rooted in the earliest known textual expressions of the Rig-Veda and the emergence of the adoration of nature unfolded to a reverence of Brahmin, the nature of universal self (Indian xviii).

The Vedic Period gave way to several different ideologies such as Buddhism, Jainism, Savism, and Vaisnavism. Many believe this shift from traditional Hinduism was based on opposing claims of causality; identity- the nature of self. The debate of identity and non-identity theorems is evident throughout the Upanishads and historically remembered as the life of Gautama the Buddha. Still at a much later date, a third position of ethnicity termed ‘Ren’, self as community, developed from the teachings of Confucius which complemented Buddhism and Daoism.

The latter Vedic Period of 300 BC to 600 B.C. is dominated by two philosophical views; the traditional Brahmin which deals with the embodiment of the unconditional self, and applied science, the birth of logic. The Upanishads 

migrates from the idea of a superior ruler of many gods to monism, a unified whole or universal self-termed ‘Atman’.

Kupperman explains that the Buddhist philosophy sees the world as a “swirl of fragments, linked by causal relation and by other associations (p 22).”

The term ‘anatman’ refers to the Buddhist rejection of the traditional Hindu view, “Atman is Brahmin” the main theme of the Upanishads. “The Dhammapada” a Buddhist text, rejects “Atman” and the notion of a “real self” (Kupperman p 22).

Although both Hinduism and Buddhism show contempt to egoism and individualism, nether denies the ego-self or a first person view of the world. Joel Kupperman explains, “The Dhammada” metaphysics is opposite to that of Hindu philosophy. The ego-self does not exist in the absolute sense; not some permanent thing. And second, the self is just a name in the absolute sense, a convenient designation, in other words, the term ‘self” is the name designated as psychotically physical complex that exist in the absolute sense at the same time.

The Vedic tradition is revived by Samkara a thousand years later (788-820? A.D.) The Vedanta sutra chief commentators are Samkara, Ramanuja, and Mafdhva. Samkara expresses in his introduction of the Vendanta Sutra an identity claim of undifferentiated consciousness unaffected by death of the physical body. Samkara supports that reality self (Atman) is existence, knowledge and bliss universal and infinite (O’Dell).

Conversely, non-absolute identity between Brahman and the individual self- an identity claim, the nature of self and it’s relation to the absolute. Gregg Singlar explains, “Samkara repudiates the subjectivism of the Yogacaras (Buddhist idealists). He also holds that the world is non-existent. Our ignorance is born of a confusion of the transcendental subject (Atman) with empirical existence (anatman pg 507).”

Nevertheless, self-preservation takes precedence over any other human activity; few philosophers would defend their lives with an abstract theory especially when we consider what is really me, what makes me me- the nature of self.

Perhaps it was just a matter of odds or a coincidence that for some reason or another, when I came to pay, the cashier would open up the receipt printer and pull long lines of wrinkled paper tape out of the device to get it operational again. Many times the procedure would not work and the cashier would have to call the manager, who had key to override the system. 

Twenty years later, not much has changed for me. When my credit card is swiped everything stops for a brief moment as terabytes of data are electronically transferred by satellite or land line to overhead cameras that identify my biometric profile at that time and at that place. I know instinctively the pause is no coincidence. I have been targeted by a domestic surveillance system that had gone completely out of control. 

Those at the extreme right will say, “If we can we should,” but that does not include those that campaign for such in the name of national security, justified by the 9/11 Patriot Act. I have no objection when it comes to national security. My concern with the “If we can we should” argument is who is ‘we’ and do they know what they are doing? 


How displeasing to have representation in the Senate such as Tea Party member Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who cries for justice after the IRS allegedly targeted ultraconservative nonprofits, while in reality many progressive groups were also targeted and Cruz has not issued one complaint about that. Others were targeted for and murdered by a NSA employee.
