Great things are happening at UTSA, and they are getting noticed.

Most recently, the university was ranked as the best in the United States for cybersecurity education and research in a survey of nearly 2,000 certified IT security professionals.

The survey was sponsored by Hewlett-Packard and conducted by the Ponemon Institute, the nation's leading research firm in privacy, data protection and information security policy. It measured UTSA's undergraduate and graduate programs in digital forensics, secure design, and intrusion detection and response. It also recognized UTSA's professional reputation within the security community and the expertise of our faculty.

 This is not the first time that UTSA has been recognized as a leader in cybersecurity. The university is designated a Center of Academic Excellence in education and research by the National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

"Why should they pursue my case? After all, I must be delusional, since I contacted the Secret Service right away because my top secret clearance dictated that I do so, and told them that our farm had been visited three times by the Secret Service and CIA, who threatened my elderly disabled father and our whole extended family."

When we developed our 10-year strategic plan in 2006, we identified security as one of our core research strengths and a program that would help us achieve Tier One recognition. We have worked very hard to grow this strength and our efforts are paying off.
